Founder and Creator
H.W. Peete, is a retired Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force, and the founder of New Horizon Comics. He’s the creator and writer of the titles Spirit the Woman of Hope and Beautiful Thema.
He first created Spirit the Woman of Hope in 2005, which lead to the development of the publishing company, Sunlight Comics. In 2007, other life goals became a focus and work on both Spirit and Sunlight Comics slowed dramatically. While things slowed, he didn't stop creating. In 2017, H.W. was inspired to write a comic book script for a project that was far outside his lane. The feedback he received brought Spirit and Sunlight Comics back into focus. Concepts and scripts were re-examined and revised.
In 2020, Spirit became H.W.'s main focus and Sunlight Comics evolved into New Horizon Comics. In 2022, New Horizon Comics was officially founded, and the first issue of Spirit the Woman of Hope was published in early 2024. A special Ashcan copy of Beautiful Thema was published in early 2025. H.W. is leading New Horizon Comics forward with the releases of the next issues of Spirit and Thema, with releases scheduled for the late spring/early summer of 2025 and more comic projects in development.
H.W. Peete has a love for writing that goes back to his childhood. His journey into storytelling started off with him writing fan fiction featuring established Marvel and DC comic characters. From there, he started creating original characters and would include them into the content he would write with his brother. During high school, he sent in a submission to Marvel Comics, for the comic title, Quasar the Cosmic Avenger.
He is a graduate of Chicago State University holding a Bachelor of Arts. H.W. is currently working to grow New Horizon Comics, not only as a publisher, but as a community engagement partner with a focus on literacy and creative expression. When he's not creating, H.W. is working his full-time job as a Chicago police officer.
